American Samoa JAG 2023

The Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) has impacted the American Samoa criminal justice system in so many ways. Funding from the JAG award has assisted its sub recipients in achieving monumental goals such as the initiation of K9 programs for both drug and borders interdiction and the purchasing of software systems so work can be moved from paper trail to a software that can be easily stored and retrieved. The SAA is working closely with the sub recipients to implement award penalty requirements such as NIBRS and PREA. With the right connection and the proper resources, the SAA is assisting the involved sub recipients with planning and initiation of programs. Hopefully by the end of this year action plans will be put in place towards compliance. JAG is not only providing the very much needed funds for American Samoa but is also the driving force of change, pushing for the implementation of federal law requirements that will improve the criminal justice system in the territory.
