Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $542,919)
The principal mission of the Vermont Drug Task Force (VDTF), a multi-jurisdictional drug task force, is to combat the threat of drug trafficking and other violent drug-related criminal activity affecting Vermont's local jurisdictions. In 2023, the VDTF will continue to target a) Vermont's most significant opioid, methamphetamine, cocaine, and poly-drug distributors; b) facilitators or "bridges" that link out-of-state traffickers to local networks; and c) street-level distributors and user/dealers.
The most severe drug threat in Vermont continues to be opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, and illicit analogues. Cocaine base and cocaine continue to be prevalent throughout the state, while high-quality imported methamphetamine and fentanyl methamphetamine combinations are becoming more prevalent. The VDTF continues to provide support and resources to local municipalities dealing with such threats by 1) routinely conducting covert, concentrated enforcement efforts in problem areas; 2) utilizing confidential informants and undercover officers; and 3) conducting controlled drug purchases.
The VDTF also works closely with the Major Crimes Unit (MCU), Vermont Intelligence Center, and other local partners providing intelligence and operational support for investigations of violent crime and other serious offenses which typically have a nexus to the drug trade.
