Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $34,992)

The City of Carson is formally applying for a sum of $34,992 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Local Solicitation, a program that is instrumental in strengthening public safety and bolstering law enforcement capabilities across jurisdictions. The primary objective of this JAG proposal is to equip the Carson Sheriff’s Station (CSS) with state-of-the-art equipment requisite to building digital trust in Carson’s communities, using technology as a force multiplier to enhance departmental operations, investigations, and to help make up for major staffing shortages. The Carson Sheriff’s Station currently has a full-time enforcement capacity of 0.01 officers per 1,000 residents, a notable quantifiable measurement considering the California State average is 1.98 officers per 1,000 residents. Key items in our acquisition list include bullet proof vests, walk-through metal detectors for public building security, emergency lights for law enforcement vehicles, and body-worn cameras (BWC) for officers.
