The Edward Brne Memorial Justice Assisitance Grant (JAG) Program, once allocated to Santa Monica, will be used to fund overtime for the newly established Special Patrol Unit. The purpose is to impact crime and keep neighborhoods safe. The City of Santa Monica Police Department's top priority is keeping the neighborhoods safe, challenges to the preception of safety in the communiity still exist, particulary within the property crime category where shoplifting crime is still on the high end. Project include positively impacting crime trends and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the city, Santa Monica utilizes overtime operations that are supported by both sworn officers and professional staff to address safety issues as they arise. The Police Department has established a Special Patrol Unit (SPU) specifically to target top priority areas and events where public safety faces the greatest challenges, and the grant funds will go a long way to support this unit's overtime efforts. The expected outcome is to lower the crime rate and instill safety back to the citizens and visitors of Santa Monica. There are no subreceipient activities.
