Orange County will use JAG funds for technology improvements and equipment to enhance and increase the community’s security. The following disparate jurisdictions will use the JAG funds as follows: Anaheim will purchase overt surveillance cameras to monitor criminal activity; Buena Park will install and lease automated license plate readers to detect vehicles associated with illegal activity; Costa Mesa and Irvine for a police canine to combat and reduce drug trafficking and educate the public on the threat of drugs; Fullerton for vests and automated external defibrillators to increase community and officer safety; Garden Grove for a software program to enhance the recruitment process and de-escalation training; Huntington Beach for officer overtime to address collision factors associated with electric bikes; La Habra for a digital collector and inspector software to increase evidence-viewing capabilities; Newport Beach for services to investigate and file criminal cases; Orange for equipment to respond to and combat current crime trends; Placentia for community outreach events to educate the community about crime prevention; Santa Ana for overtime and purchase of equipment, supplies, and miscellaneous for youth programming; Tustin for equipment to enhance the efficiency of law enforcement operations and improve community safety; and Westminster will hire two part-time Records Specialists as part of the Records Unit to assist the team with discovery and public records requests.
