Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $11,510)

For this grant, the Panama City Beach Police Department is requesting assistance with the purchase of four portable rapid ID fingerprint readers for our officer's use. These readers will serve as an important piece of technology that would significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of our police department in the field. A Rapid ID Fingerprint Scanner is a compact, mobile device that enables police officers to capture and analyze fingerprints in real-time. It has the capacity to cross-reference the acquired fingerprints against various criminal databases, delivering immediate results. This instant feedback is a vital tool that can vastly improve the speed and accuracy of suspect identification, reduce false arrests, and streamline procedures, leading to overall improved efficiency in our police work.

This technology can assist our officers in numerous scenarios. For instance, during a traffic stop or a field interview, if an individual does not have an ID or is suspected of providing false identification, a Rapid ID Fingerprint Scanner can quickly ascertain the individual's identity. Moreover, in situations where quick identification is crucial, such as missing persons or John/Jane Doe cases, this tool can provide immediate results that can save valuable time.
