One of the central tenets of Intelligence-led Policing is to have a strategic and targeted focus on serious and prolific criminal networks and gangs. Through the continued proper identification and interdiction of criminal networks and gangs, PSO hopes to develop and implement innovative and comprehensive investigative strategies designed to disrupt, displace and ultimately dismantle these criminal organizations and significantly impact violent crime in Pasco County. To date, PSO has identified 127 different criminal gangs with a total of 1,873 certified members and associates. Violent and gang related crime, in general, has risen in Pasco County over the past four years.
Through the utilization of funds received from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, the PSO intends to continue covering the salary and benefits for a Criminal Network/Gang Detective position as well as overtime to focus on identifying, disrupting, and dismantling criminal networks and gangs. The PSO will continue to advance the competencies and capabilities of the Gang Detective through training opportunities and advanced development of the program.
