Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $177,811)
Boise City Police Department (BPD) and Ada County Sheriff’s Office have identified individual needs for their share of JAG funds. BPD plans to use the FY23 JAG grant funds to invest in upgrading their training facility with moveable walls in our tactical training facility. These walls will allow the training team to move and adjust the portable walls to create different scenarios for exercises, customizing unique training sessions for officers. Smaller requests include protective and safety equipment, communication equipment, and e-bikes for our university campus patrol unit. This equipment will enhance public safety, protect valuable equipment assets, and improve response capabilities. The Ada County Sheriff’s Office intends to use its FY23JAG funds to purchase a sonar system. This sonar system will establish Ada County’s ability to identify and recover objects through up 120 feet of water. This capability will drastically reduce the time it takes to find an underwater object, be it a body, vehicle, or evidence. Ada County Sheriff’s Office is the largest law enforcement agency in Idaho and is often requested to assist other rural agencies with fewer resources. This sonar system will establish a regional capability that we can use to assist other nearby agencies.
