Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $18,697)

The purpose of this grant application for the Bureau of Justice Assistance FY23 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Local Solicitation is to request funds to purchase equipment that will improve the operations of the Alton Police Department as well as increase community safety.  Specifically, the Alton Police Department used FY22 JAG funds to begin our efforts at ensuring necessary breaching equipment is available in each police vehicle so that these items will be immediately available when needed in situations such as active shooters.  While the FY22 JAG grants were instrumental in obtaining a large amount of breaching equipment, we were not able to purchase all necessary breaching equipment.  Thus, we look to use FY23 JAG funds in order to purchase the remaining breaching equipment needed to ensure all police vehicles are uniformly equipped.  We will also use grant funds to purchase other performance and safety-enhancing equipment such as non-lethal force equipment and accessories, crime scene evidence markers, and electronic road flares.
