Police Response - Life Saving Equipment

The Waukegan Police Department proposes the use of the awarded funds to acquire equipment to further improve the safety of officers and citizens near Lake Michigan.  Program purchases will increase officer safety by having life-saving and safety equipment easily accessible in patrol vehicles.  Program purchases will also increase citizen safety and rescue efforts by having life-saving equipment easily deployable from patrol vehicles to a waterborne crisis.  Expected outcomes will be a reduction in officer injuries and an increase in citizen rescues witin the City of Waukegan.  The intended beneficiaries are the Waukegan Police Department officers and the citizens of Waukegan.  Subrecipient activities include the development of a Special Response Team, community education and outreach, the development of a citizen's police academy, and the increase of officer training.
