TPD and SSO have agreed in a joint venture to purchase 30 license plate reader (LPR) cameras. LPRs are used as tools for traffic monitoring and can assist in investigation of more serious crimes. The cameras will automatically capture the license plate in real time, and has the capabilities to compare or add the plate number to a list that can be analyzed by law enforcement.
TPD and SSO will determine the location for the cameras based on hot spots and frequently traveled roadways.
