Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $49,709)

The Howard County Police Department (HCPD) will use the JAG funds to conduct saturation patrols to deter crime. The HCPD acknowledges the use of saturation patrols as a valuable tool for crime suppression. For multiple years, the police department utilized JAG funds to concentrate officer presence in certain “hot spot” areas, effectively deterring crime. The HCPD will use JAG funds to provide 665 hours of officer overtime to deploy visible saturation patrols that will continue to discourage crime. The HCPD will create a database of overtime funds for saturation patrols, track performance measures using the performance measuring tool and complete quarterly reports.
