Prince George's County has six public safety agencies - Police Department, Fire/EMS Department, Department of Corrections, Homeland Security, Sheriff Department, and the State’s Attorney Office - that play an integral part in its criminal justice system. All agencies are under the auspices of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (DCAO) for Public Safety. The DCAO reports to the County’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), who reports to the County Executive who is the elected official responsible for the governing of the County. The Prince George’s Public Safety Initiative will focus on providing continuing support for the agencies’ mental health programs, prosecution/courts diversionary programs and equipment upgrades. Four of the six agencies will use the funds for continuation of its employee wellness programs while the police will purchase surveillance equipment and the State’s Attorney Office will provide case management for diversionary offenders.
