FY 23 JAG Grant - The South Portland Police Department

The City of South Portland Police Department intents to use the JAG funds for the procurement of 4 to 5 "FLOCK" camera systems. South Portland, as an interstate city, is uniquely positioned to benefit from the license-plate-reading-function of Flock cameras. The City of South Portland has in recent years has at times been housing in excess of 1000 unhoused peoples and asylum seekers (the latter a group we like to call “New Mainers”) due to our large number of hotels because of our location as an interstate city (18+). While our community is excited at the influx of people moving into our community, the competition for city services these developments have enhanced has stretched budgets thin. We make note of this to assure you that the South Portland Police Department will be a good steward of these taxpayer funds and is excited to implement a program that has shown itself to be beneficial in cities nationwide.
