JAG funds will be used to obtain equipment and services that enhance their ability to combat and respond to criminal activities within Cass County and the community of Fargo, North Dakota. Cass County has been authorized by their Inter-Local Agreement (MOU) to act as fiscal agent. Expenditures over the lifetime of this grant will improve the ability to communicate with each other and keep law enforcement officers engaged in prolonged activities beyond their normal shift assignments. Identified needs include the use of $73,654 for overtime salaries of officers assigned to the Fargo Police Department. Currently the average overtime salary is $57.22 per hour, which equates to approximately 1,287 hours for overtime. The Cass County Sheriff's Office will utilize the remaining grant funds of $10,000 for the purchase of safety equipment for their officers. This can include, but not limited to ballistic helmets, ballistic shields, gas masks, rifle rated armor vest carriers, and tourniquets. Officer safety is essential, and they believe providing our officers with lifesaving equipment is a crucial responsibility of governance.
