Youngstown-Youngstown Police Department patrols the 34 square miles of streets in the city of Youngstown which has a population of approximately 59,620. Evaluation of the police fleet of vehicles show several front line vehicles have wear and tear on them after several years of constant use, causing them to be down for repairs and not allowing for safe and efficient level of service 24 hours per day, 365 days per year as required in the city.
Mahoning County-MCSO is currently in need of five Mobile Radios to maintain effective communications.
Target population is the police officers, deputies and all the people who live, work, and visit the city of Youngstown and Mahoning County in addition to population needing police services.
Goals and objectives include: update the Police Department’s fleet of vehicles to safer and more efficient vehicles by September 30, 2027 by purchasing a new front line police vehicle and integrate additional Mobile Radios for jail and police vehicles allowing interoperability needed for effective communications.
The Project strategy is: City of Youngstown will purchase one new front line police vehicle from the State of Ohio state contract in order to better effectively police the city. Older high mileage vehicle will be put into use by plain clothes officers/detectives. Additionally, Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office –Purchase five Mobile Radios to be utilized to strengthen the communication system.
The anticipated outcomes of the project include: Less down time repairing vehicles and more time on the road patrolling the city; more efficient, safe vehicles; strengthen County communication system; and, enhance and expand communication capabilities.
