Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $40,807)
City of Wilkes-Barre Police Department will use the JAG funds for the cost of overtime by assigning additional officers in both violent high crime areas and areas frequented by children such as parks and special events. Training (community-based and non-community based) provides training to officers and various instructor courses in dealing with violent crime areas. Firearms/taser instructors’ re-certifications will also be funded. This funding will enable the Wilkes-Barre Police Department to continue with its plan to provide the necessary public services that are vital to the residents. The biggest asset of these funds will provide this police department with the flexibility to prioritize and place funds where they are needed most as outlined in the budget narrative. The City of Hazelton will use their share of JAG funds to support saturation patrols in high crime areas through the city.
