Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $18,616)

The Warwick Police Department will utilize the funding provided by the 2023 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) to purchase a Speed Alert Radar Message Sign. Manufactured by All Traffic Solutions, this system has the capabilities to monitor speeds on our roadways, display messages to the public and is easily transported to various locations throughout the city where speed issues arise.

This product would allow our Traffic Division to remotely access the data collected by the sled on any device with an internet connection and produce an auto-generate speed report. This would conserve manpower by not having to physically perform traffic surveys at a citizen’s request, and would allot more time for these officers to conduct enforcements throughout the city, attempting to reduce speeding problems and more importantly speed related crashes.

Our city experiences several pedestrian fatalities each year in which speed typically plays some factor. This Speed Alert Radar Message Sign would often be utilized in areas where these fatalities have occurred to encourage motorists to reduce their speeds and be alert for pedestrians in the roadway.

In addition to the above, the message board feature of this product will be used during enforcement campaigns such as “Click it or Ticket”, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and other various events to alert the public of dangerous driving habits.

Due to budgetary constraints, the Warwick Police Department would be unable to purchase this necessary tool without supplemental assistance. Thank you very much for your consideration.
