Mental Health Matters

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety (ODPS) recognizes the need to address the mental wellbeing of officers who are most often the first line responders involving crisis situations. The City of Orangeburg will use JAG funds to provide physical fitness programs and on- and off-site counseling to officers through on-going partnerships with local mental health practitioners and gyms.  ODPS has experienced a significant shortage of certified public safety officers since the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic which has added to officers increased levels of stress related to work, family, finances and general physical and mental health.
