Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $21,844)
Layton City has administered several joint application grants for the Davis County area and is familiar with the accounting procedures required by the Department of Justice. Again, this year, the department is requesting funding for four (4) Electric Bicycles (E-Bikes).
Layton City Police Department is a Community Oriented Police Department who utilizes police E-Bikes to address high crime areas, engage with community members, patrol neighborhoods, apartment complexes, mobile home communities, and a vast trail system throughout the city. E-Bikes provide police officers an incredible advantage when conducting proactive police work. The pedal assist and throttle assist control capabilities of the E-Bikes allow officers to ride further and cover more terrain that would be possible on a traditional mountain bike. E-Bikes are equipped with police lights allow for easily identifiable police identification and for bike officers to arrive on scenes faster without the fatigue of traditional bikes.
The Davis County Attorney’s Office operates on a limited budget for office hardware and equipment. Budget resources are typically applied toward inter-office equipment and computer programs. Increasingly, there is a need to use modern media equipment to facilitate in-court presentations during evidentiary hearings and trials. The Davis County Attorney’s Office continues to see notable increases in cases involving fraud and forgery schemes. The office needs additional equipment to more efficiently and effectively prepare and present these cases. Grant funds will be used to purchase computer hardware, sound equipment, cables, televisions, monitors, and stands needed for this preparation and trial work.
