BJA FY2023 Law Enforcement Initiatives

The City of Manassas is a community of approximately 42,000 residences in a ten-square¬ mile jurisdiction in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The City of Manassas Police Department comprises 99 sworn officers and 37 non-sworn staff members. The Manassas City Police Department will use the JAG funds to purchase restraints and five instructor certifications to better address violent prisoners and subjects detained under involuntary mental health evaluations, Fundamentals of Realistic De-Escalation Instructor booklets to equip sworn staff to better service the community to address violent crime, software to better service the community to mitigate traffic complaints and reduce traffic-related fatalities, and equipment for the Manassas City Police Civil Disturbance Unit and Emergency Services Unit to respond to violent groups and violent incidents. JAG funds will also be used to purchase digital sound level meters and sound level calibrators.
