Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $698,257)
The proposed project aims to reduce violence and sustain community safety in the most chronic violent crime hot spots across DPD districts; develop strategic expansion protocols for Place Network Investigations (PNI) that can be replicated by other law enforcement agencies; and advance the state of policing practice, accountability, and science. Over the three-year grant period, the DPD will build capacity for PNI expansion by identifying new PNI sites, training new investigative teams, and expanding its PNI Board; complete investigations and develop tailored responses with community partners to disrupt the crime place networks and promote community redevelopment; and monitor violent crime reductions for sustainability. Importantly, this project will be the first of its kind to integrate PNI as a comprehensive, department-wide violence reduction strategy. The DPD will partner with the National Policing Institute for technical assistance and evaluation of the implementation and impact of PNI across the city of Denver. Additionally, DPD and the Institute will collaborate in developing toolkits and guidance for law enforcement agencies interested in implementing similar violence reduction strategies. National Policing Institute is the research partner.
