Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $149,325)

As rates of autism and dementia increase, the number of people who may elope from a safe location also increases. Unfortunately, California does not have a unifying method to locate, identify, and reunite elopers with their loved ones. As the sole applicant on this request, GET SAFE will develop and deliver a person-centered prevention and recovery training program for law enforcement, emergency dispatchers, caregivers and service professionals, and at-risk individuals. This would create the first statewide coordinated effort among these groups to reduce instances of injury and death in missing Californians with autism or dementia. This course will also assist groups in other states that lack prevention and recovery training programs for caregivers and service professionals.
