Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $413,053)

The purpose of this Bah-Kho-Je Healing to Wellness Program is to plan and implement a program that effectively practices intervening with substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorders within the Native community, as well as preventing individuals from committing non-violent offenses that is a result of their substance use, this can also include individual who are simply arrested on drug offenses.  Primary activities upon implementation include the following: 1) providing treatment and recovery services that address alcohol and substance use; 2) preventing the number of non-violent offenses that is a direct result of substance use and drug offenses by providing a program that is tailored toward the individual, community based, and a culturally competent system of treatment.  

Although the territorial jurisdiction includes Lincoln, Logan and Payne counties, the service area will service the Native American population that is enrolled in a federally recognized tribe and resides within the State of Oklahoma.  The projects target population will be 100% Native Americans who are enrolled in a federally recognized tribe, and the tribal jurisdiction is located within a rural location. 

The Bah-Kho-Je Healing to Wellness Program is a pre-adjudication court and will consistently work with individuals to recognize the importance of healing and addressing alcohol and other drug problems in the community, rather than taking punitive measures that will stay with the individual for the rest of their life.
