Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $500,000)

The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) proposes to
implement the Baton Rouge National Public Safety
Partnership Strategic Plan. This project is based on the
strategic plan that was developed in March 2022 by East
Baton Rouge Gun Violence Collaborative (EBRVC). The
plan summarizes the work of the BRPD National Public
Safety Partnership strategic planning process, supported by
the DOJ BJA; the decisions made during that process; the
next steps necessary to actualize the plan; and the
implementation of the plan. The plan contains the long-term
strategic outcome along with the necessary goals and
strategies for accomplishing the outcome and creating the
desired future state. The plan includes strategic enforcement
of ongoing gun violence, as well as working with
community organizations and community members to
holistically address the root causes of gun violence.
Enforcing laws, investigating gun-involved crimes, and
prosecuting cases are foundational elements of the violence
reduction strategy.
