Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,000,000)

The International Academy of Flint (IAF) will implement a multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment team and establish the community prevention service task force, including representation from local law enforcement agencies. IAF will add two new student leadership councils, one for grades 6–8 and one for grades 9–12. Students will be included in an age-appropriate anti-violence program that focuses on decision-making, speaking to fellow students, creating posters, and more. IAF will provide training to school staff, students, and parents/caregivers that focuses on restorative practices, mental health, social-emotional learning, anti-bullying, and domestic violence prevention. Out-of-schooltime activities will be increased for students, including a mentorships program, youth development, music therapy, and mindfulness/yoga.
