The project will include hiring two school climate officers, who will join the existing safety team in receiving the Train the Trainer certifications in nonviolent crisis intervention, verbal de-escalation, and trauma at the Crisis Prevention Institute. These training sessions will include a component on establishing a behavioral threat assessment team. It will include information on identifying students who may pose a threat to school safety; assessing the actions, communications, and specific circumstances that suggest a potential risk of violence; and providing appropriate resources to prevent potential violent incidents. This safety team, in conjunction with the Wellness Center staff, will provide these training and ongoing support to the rest of the staff throughout the length of this grant and beyond. Additional project activities include the purchase, installation, training, and implementation of a visitor management system called Raptor; a mass notification system called Share911; and two Motorola concealed weapon detection systems. The safety team, along with identified staff members, will participate in the training specific to these technology solutions.
