Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,000,000)

This project will hire three full-time behavioral support specialists (BSSs) who are/will be registered behavior technicians. These BSSs will do the following: Provide applied behavior analysis support services and in-classroom interventions in all schools to students needing support, as well as provide additional intervention/supports for identified Tier 2 and 3 students. Provide services/support to teachers, administrators, staff, and parents/guardians/families as requested. Conduct initial whole-district behavioral health needs assessment, and annually thereafter, for students receiving services or on waiting list. Plan/schedule trainings to address identified needs for teachers and school administrators, as well as other student-facing staff (bus drivers, instructional aides, etc.), to include classroom management strategies, data collection, applied behavior interventions, and emotional regulation/social skills for students. Develop district behavior intervention website with resources, referral processes, and more, with one page/link for teachers/administrators, one for parents/guardians, and one for students. Create a discipline matrix with prevention, interventions, and strategies for teachers/school teams to use. Provide outreach events for parents/guardians (and the community) designed to help families in implementing behavioral interventions and supports for their child at home. Provide training for students in peer mentorship, as well as in whom to ask for help and how. Conduct student surveys regarding concerning behaviors/behavior patterns and request student input on solutions (as needed).
