Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $256,588)

The project’s goals are to enhance NOPD’s ability to readily identify and analyze department responses to calls for service and incidents that required use of CIT principles during responses as well as assess the role CIT plays in officer mental health and wellness. NOPD will partner with Case Western Reserve University Begun Center for Violence Prevention, Research, and Education for subject matter expertise and as a research partner. Once baseline data has been collected and analyzed, NOPD will implement programming and operational activities aimed at maximizing community and officer safety to disrupt potential cycles of interpersonal violence at the earliest possible stages.
