Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $269,050)

The primary goal of the Lauderhill Police Department’s DV initiative will be to increase the Lauderhill Police Department’s capacity to raise domestic violence (DV) awareness, prevent the recurrence, and investigate and prosecute DV cases to provide justice to victims and survivors. To achieve this goal, the city will utilize grant funds to provide specific resources and training for officers and victims’ advocates. The city of Lauderhill Police Department will acquire a full spectrum camera; victim services tracking software; hire a subject matter expert to train officers, victims’ advocates, and community members on DV-related topics; acquire consultant services to examine data provided by the Lauderhill Police Department and the Broward State Attorney’s Office to measure the project’s success in achieving the stated goal; and pay overtime for victims’ advocates and officers to provide prompt responses to DV incidents and information on resources available in the community.
