Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $300,000)

The city of La Marque has experienced a significant increase in violent crimes, much of this is due to gangs and drug trafficking. The city ranks among the top 50 in Texas, and is first in Galveston County, for violent crimes. The city is only 45 miles south of Houston and serves as a refuge for gang members and those seeking police assistance, offering a convenient location for those with warrants and avoiding police contact. To combat this the city intends to employ a crime analyst, partner with a subject matter expert in crime prevention, and create a partnership with a resource and crisis center.
