Enhancing Crisis Response and De-escalation Training through AI-Assisted Virtual Reality Technology

The primary activities of this project include: 1) Collaboration between Florida International University (FIU) and the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Public Safety Training Institute and Research Center to develop and implement AI-assisted virtual reality training modules focused on crisis response and de-escalation; 2) Creating realistic AI-assisted virtual scenarios that simulate critical incidents involving individuals in crisis; 3) Conducting training sessions with MDPD officers, allowing them to engage in immersive virtual reality experiences, practice de-escalation techniques, and receive immediate feedback; and 4) Evaluating the effectiveness of the AI-assisted virtual reality training program. The service area for this project is Miami-Dade County, where the Miami-Dade Police Department operates. The training and implementation of the AI-assisted virtual reality program will primarily focus on MDPD officers working within the county's diverse communities.
