Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $150,000)
The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians will undertake comprehensive planning to understand the justice system needs on the Reservation and address those needs through a community-oriented approach. A comprehensive justice system-wide strategic plan will identify and establish the means for the Tribe and the Tribal Police Department to follow up on criminal justice that occurs on the Reservation to ensure appropriate measure are taken, including victim services and engagement, and prosecution of criminal perpetrators. The process for developing the justice system strategic plan will allow the Tribe and its representatives to engage regional jurisdictional entities and community groups to guide the establishment of a workable and effective justice system.
