Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $900,000)

The Pueblo of Jemez is a federally recognized tribe in Sandoval County, New Mexico. With this funding, the Jemez tribal court will implement the following goals: (1) Increase the capacity and capabilities of the tribal court by recruiting, hiring, and retaining essential administrative and probation services personnel. (2) Increase court options, sentencing, and confinement alternatives by reestablishing an intensive outpatient program with the Jemez Behavioral Health Program. (3) Strengthen court data management by creating governance policies and procedures for data control, usage, information sharing, and exchange. (4) Enhance allied service partner relationships by developing collaboration policies for coordinated referral and service delivery systems, codevelop culturally relevant programs for victims and offenders, and conduct mandatory cross-training. Specifically, the tribe will use funding to fill the vacant court administrator position and support the existing probation officer and court clerk personnel. It includes training and personnel development support to attend BJA-funded capacity-building training for judicial, probation, and court personnel.
