Tribal Court Enhancements

The project goal of the Winnemucca Indian Colony of Nevada is to restore and reclaim tribal sovereignty as it provides access to justice. Funding will be used to strengthen the colony court to function with the full authority and recognition that it carries with it. Project objectives include: (1) acquisition and hiring of seasoned personnel necessary for the tribal court to function safely and with integrity; (2) elimination of current barriers to tribal court access that are geographic, procedural, cultural, and economic; and (3) the hearing of civil and criminal cases that will transform a deeply troubled community to health, prosperity, and the ability to govern itself. The colony will be transformed and able to provide desperately needed services in an environment with real homes and quality facilities.
