Funding will be used to pay for salaries of community police officers.

The Meriden Police Department seeks funding from BJA FY23 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to support personnel costs associated with the Neighborhood Initiative Unit (NIU) that is intended to respond to community needs and uphold the overall quality of life for Meriden residents.

The goals of this project are: Prevent, control and suppress street crime, particularly in targeted neighborhoods where criminal activity is prevalent. Provide a safe and healthy environment for economic growth and recovery in at risk neighborhoods.
