The Granite City Police Department requests grant funds to purchase eight basllistic rescue shields. The shields will be issued to school resource officers at the high school and junior high school as well as patrol and detective divisions. In many instances, police patrol officers are the first to arrive on scene to incidents involving gun violence and are charged with the dangerous task of evacuating victims from active threat areas. The hand-held ballistic shields will be used to rescue victims of crime and protect responding personnel during elevated threat incidents.
