Sgnificant increase in threats of violence against election workers, administrators, officials, and volunteers who administer elections for federal, state, and local office have occured and are anticipated to occur, again, in this country's 2024 primary and general elections.Thurston County, WA, proposes to utilize its local JAG allocation to acquire and install a fireproof, bullet-resistant door for the Safe Room located inside the County Elections Center to provide protective shelter for elections staff and volunteers whose lives may become threatened by acts of violence. The County proposes to have the door installed prior to the 2024 primary and general elections. At this time, there is no existing bullet resistant door barrier that could serve to protect persons working elections.
