Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $2,000,000)
The New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety (DLPS) and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs (Division) purpose for this project is to increase the awareness and utilization of the New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program (NJPMP), expanding NJPMP educational outreach initiatives, developing NJPMP training tools, and promoting multi-disciplinary collaboration. The following primary activities include developing training tools for program users, launching an educational awareness campaign, developing multi-disciplinary educational programs, and maintaining the mandatory RxCheck connection. The expected outcomes include improvement of the program’s effectiveness in managing patient care, combating prescription drug abuse, misuse, and diversion, as well as identifying those in need of treatment for substance use disorders throughout the state of NJ. The NJPMP allows inter-state data sharing with nineteen other states/territories, including the Military Health System. Interstate patient queries increased to 15.4 million in 2022, up from 591,092 in 2016.
