Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $70,000)

The Greene County Sheriff's Office will purchase a Virtual Reality Training Simulator and implement a training program for interactive crisis intervention, de-escalation, and use of force training. Greene County is a small rural community in the foothills of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains. There is neither a training center nor practice shooting range for deputies within county limits. This Virtual Reality Training Simulator will allow sheriff deputies to train locally where they must currently travel more than an hour to train and qualify with their weapons throughout the year.

The Virtual Reality Training Simulator is a comprehensive solution that allows trainers to give presentations and classes, conduct interactive testing and assessment, and provide immersive hands-on scenario-based exercises with detailed debriefing and after-action reviews. With this funding, the Greene County Sheriff's Office will purchase the simulator, accessories, and software, and develop a training program. In these challenging times, our law enforcement members must remain highly trained with the most sophisticated systems available.
