Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $100,000)

The Morgan Hill Police Department seeks to elevate our traffic patrol efforts and DUI enforcement by purchasing two motorcycles and implementing a sobriety checkpoint campaign. Increased residential growth and popularity of Morgan Hill’s vibrant downtown correlates to a growing number of motorists driving under the influence, demonstrating the need for additional law enforcement. Additionally, the City Council has adopted the Vision Zero Campaign as a strategic priority. Vision Zero is a traffic safety improvement initiative that began in Sweden in 1997 and has been credited with reducing traffic fatalities. The core principles are building better and safer streets, educating the public on traffic safety, enforcing traffic laws, and adopting policy changes that save lives. The goal is to create a culture that prioritizes safety, creates livable streets, and seeks to eliminate traffic fatalities.
