Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $987,000)

The NYPD is seeking funding in the amount of $987,000 to acquire personal protective equipment. The current version of Taser Conducted Energy Weapons (CEW) is no longer available, necessitating the purchase of a more up-to-date model. Over time, the Taser has proven to be an effective tool for law enforcement, offering a non-lethal means of incapacitating individuals by delivering an electric shock. By utilizing Tasers, the risk of harm to police officers, offenders, and the general public can be significantly reduced. Tasers are particularly effective against individuals who are impervious to pain, such as those who are highly motivated, extremely aggressive, or under the influence of substances. Furthermore, Tasers can be deployed from a safe distance. Given the numerous advantages of Tasers, it is crucial for the NYPD to initiate a project aimed at procuring and distributing the newer model.
