Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,100,000)
The Murray State University Police Department proposes to implement the Murray State University communications and security camera systems enhancement program. The purpose is the replacement of the Murray State Police Department’s radio communications system as well as the replacement and enhancement of security camera software and hardware on Murray State’s main campus, in addition to any infrastructure, such as fiber and/or electric, that may be necessary for the operation of new equipment. Project activities for the communications center include replacing the communication center’s main radio console, portable radios for each officer, and mobile radios for each patrol vehicle. Project activities for the security camera system include replacing and implementing cameras across campus, obtaining new software, and adding additional infrastructure. Expected outcomes for communications include seamless, uninterrupted communication between dispatch and officers, the ability to communicate to local agencies, along with enhancing our abilities to serve as the Emergency Operations Center for Calloway County, Kentucky. Expected outcomes for the security camera system include improving coverage, crime prevention, investigations, and the ability to monitor events in real time on Murray State’s main campus. These combined improvements will benefit the faculty, staff, and students of Murray State University, as well as the residents of Calloway County, Kentucky.
