Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $450,000)

Turnaround Thursday stands out as a unique program, born from the collaborative efforts and inspiration of Arundel Connecting Together. It serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity, offering a second chance at meaningful employment and a brighter future. The Anne Arundel County Community Action Agency, the county's designated anti-poverty organization, plays a pivotal role in the success of this unique initiative, providing management, and comprehensive wrap-around services through its Two-Generaltional Whole Family Approach. This method focuses on the entire family unit, not just those directly impacted, ensuring holistic support and greater outcomes.
Turnaround Thursday is more than just a response to workforce shortages. It's a comprehensive solution, offering pathways to employment for individuals facing significant barriers. These barriers, often intertwined with socio-economic needs, are recognized as critical hurdles. In light of this, Turnaround Thursday provides a comprehensive approach to empowerment, encompassing skill development, supportive services, and securing vital records. This ensures that participants are fully equipped with the tools and resources necessary for success.

Each program participant undergoes a personalized needs assessment, laying the groundwork for tailored support and goal-setting. Participants take 30 hours of comprehensive essential skills curriculum, which explores various topics, from interviewing skills to conflict resolution and leadership.

Integral to Turnaround Thursday's success is intensive case management. Professionals work closely with participants to address barriers to behavioral health challenges. Collaborating with partners like Luminis Health, a local healthcare provider, ensures access to vital behavioral health services, bridging the gap between healthcare and employment.

Upon completion of the curriculum, participants work with a job developer to connect with employment opportunities aligned with their goals. Ongoing support and coaching empower individuals to navigate challenges and build a foundation for long-term success.

Strategic partnerships with employers are a cornerstone of Turnaround Thursday's success. The program actively engages with businesses, sharing success stories of participants who have overcome significant barriers. This not only demonstrates the benefits of hiring program participants but also showcases the program's practical approach to addressing workforce shortages and providing second chances.
The impact of Turnaround Thursday extends beyond individual participants to encompass the entire community. By measuring success through employment and job retention rates, and leveraging data for continuous improvement, the program transforms individual lives and reshapes community narratives. Through fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment, Turnaround Thursday contributes to building a stronger community where everyone plays a vital role in collective thriving.
