The Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) Program in Santa Fe County provides long-term, intensive, mobile case management to people with substance use and/or mental health challenges, who may be justice involved. The county was awarded funding under the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant and Substance Abuse Site-Based (COSSAP) Program in 2020-2022 to plan and implement a LEAD site in Santa Fe County (replicated after the LEAD model established in Seattle, Washington). The program has been operational since January 2021. Referral sources are the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office and the Edgewood Police Department. The county will utilize this funding to continue operations and program expansion, while adding a contract case manager to address anticipated capacity issues as a result of added referral sources.
