Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $564,000)

The Peoria City/County Health Department proposes to implement the Cure Violence program. The purpose is to prevent firearm injuries and fatalities in the data-identified focus areas within the city of Peoria, Illinois. Project activities include detecting and interrupting potentially violent situations, identifying and changing the thinking and behavior of those most likely to engage in violence, and changing group norms that support and perpetuate the use of violence. Expected outcomes include decreased shooting, decreased firearm injuries, and decreased firearm-related fatalities. Residents of the City of Peoria, Illinois are the intended beneficiaries of the project. Subrecipient activities include management of program staff, outreach, case management activities for high-risk program participants, and mediation and de-escalation of potentially violent conflicts.
