Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $963,000)

The City of Bellevue proposes to implement a Body-Worn Camera Program for the Bellevue Police Department. The purpose is to equip Bellevue police officers with an integrated camera system that fosters transparency, enhances accountability, and builds stronger community relations. This program will enhance safety for both law enforcement and Bellevue’s growing community.

The project activities include system and infrastructure costs for an integrated system that meets national public safety industry standards and guidelines; developing policies and procedures governing the use of BWCs; regular review and cohesive adjustments to ensure the program meets its objectives.

Expected outcomes include comprehensive training emphasizing best practices, privacy considerations and legal requirements; inclusive implementation of BWC program; equitable resource allocation for program objectives; enhanced officer safety and professionalism, and reduced time and resources spent on legal disputes.
