Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $161,000)

The Milford Police Department Transparency Initiative is a multifaceted strategy that consists of equipping each Milford officer with a body-worn camera, patrol vehicles with updated in-car cameras, establishing a joint de-escalation and response to resistance program, instituting an employee early warning system, and attaining accreditation through the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC). These actions will further the department’s mission toward providing the highest level of service and protection to the community while remaining transparent to community stakeholders. Each action will impact all community members in the Village and Township of Milford through increased documentation and transparency of police interactions, by providing essential and accessible in-house training on volatile human interactions, and by increasing accountability and trust through the accreditation process.
