Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $770,000)

Lancaster County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Vehicle Replacement Project.  In order to provide superior service to our residents these outstanding men and women must first be able to arrive at calls safely and promptly. A key to this is having a fleet of vehicles that meet safety and policy guidelines from both our insurance carrier (South Carolina Property and Liability Insurance Trust) as well as county policy for law enforcement vehicles, which is based on state policy for law enforcement vehicles as promulgated by the State Department of Administration. Current guidelines call for a front-line law enforcement vehicle to be no older than 6 model years and have less than 125,000 miles on the odometer. Cars exceeding those limits can be, and are, safely utilized for administrative positions. Unfortunately, we are not close to currently meeting these standards.
