The University of Southern Mississippi proposes to implement the Rural Digital Forensics Initiative (RDFI). The purpose is to develop a training and lab solution for digital forensics that is applicable to rural communities across the United States. Project activities include establishing a working forensics laboratory as a real-world training/education facility; creating a high-quality digital content creation studio; developing and implementing a digital/social media delivery mechanism to reach law enforcement in rural communities. Expected outcomes include the development of a multi-disciplinary team to address the digital forensics needs of rural communities; provision of forensic services; creation of social media educational tools to assist with line officer training in digital forensic investigation basics; and regular program assessments.
